The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has been in consultation with office of Advisor to the Prime Minister on Skill Development (APM office) on repositioning the ‘National Service Scheme’ by introducing “Skill Training” so that the graduating NSS youth acquire job related skills through immersive projects. This involves college student engagement over three years in a multi stakeholder collaborative model involving NGO’s, Universities and Corporates. Tata Institute of Social sciences (TISS), a premier academic institution in the country is the key knowledge partner in this program.
The program has been designed on an integrated framework that pedagogically links academic course content, skill training and application for well-being as a “credit-bearing educational experience”. In addition to imparting skills and building expertise in a vocation, the program will also foster inner capabilities of students, inculcating within them values of civic responsibility; build their competencies to work effectively in complex, inter-related environments, and prepare them to engage in meaningful work that brings out their full potential.
